I don't understand how the latching relay (top one?) can reset? It is a single coil relay and there is nothing in the diagram that indicates that the switch is capable of delivering a pulse of different polarity.

There must be a second switch therefore, no?   I guess I'm confused by the range of meaning with "single pulse" "single switch" "impulse" etc.

I'm trying to find a purely electromechanical way of using a single momentary switch to operate a latching dpdt relay. Seems like it should be doable with no more than three relays, but I can't get the logic straight. There is a Magnecraft 711 series relay, but it's just too physically bulky for my use.

I'm trying not to have to resort to using a little barrel push solenoid connected to a little latching dpdt pushswitch, but it may come down to that.

The top relays works similar to a ball point pen. Inside the relay is a mechanical latch that catches or releases each time the coil is energized closing or opening the contact with the common terminal.

then that relay must be the size of the magnecraft 711?

I have searched e v e r y w h e r e for a solid week now. I've asked dozens of experts, engineers, and salespeople if a relay with a ratching mechanism for allowing it to use the same polarity per operation existed in a pcb version. They all said no. I looked through google for two days straight. Still nothing.   The one photograped in that circuit..

is a pcb mountable relay.   If you can tell me where to purchase this you will be my hero! (I'm not being sarcastic. this experience has been that frustrating!)

Please get back to me on this. I'm sincerely begging you.   I'm going nuts here.

I purchased the last few from Pelican Electronics in Metairie, LA many years ago. When I get back in town, I'll be happy to check with my suppliers for the relay shown in the picture. BTW, I know that I have at least one left as it is the one in the picture.

You're Welcome, but I felt as though I HAD to help him out. I could hear the stress in his typing.
