Hey everybody I am new here.  Anyways here is my problem I want to hook my turn signals to my corner lights aka driving lights.  Both the corner lights and the turn signals have 2 wires positive and negative.  I have tried hooking them up but can't figure out how to have them work in both ways.  What I mean is say when I turn the lights on, then the corner lights come on.  But the part I couldn't get to work is if the lights are on how do I get them to blink when I turn the signal on.  Do I use a SPDT relay?  If somebody could help me out here and possibly put in some diagrams I would appreciate it.  Also the corner lights are not dual filament bulbs.  Thanks

You could have each corner light blink when each turn signal blinks by interrupting current to the corner lights when the turn signals are on with an SPDT relay for each side. Connect the lead that shows 12V+ at one turn signal lamp to terminal 85, connect terminal 86 to ground. Cut the lead that shows 12V+ on the corresponding corner lamp and place one side to terminal 30 and the other side to terminal 87a (doesn't matter which one goes to which). Repeat for the other side. When your turn signal is on your corner lamp and turn signal will flash alternately (while one is on, the other will be off).

If you want the corner lamps to flash at the same time as the turn signals, you'll have to connect the lamp side of the cut corner lamp wire to terminal 30, connect terminal 87 to a fused constant 12V+, and insulate the other end of the corner lamp lead. Leave terminals 85 and 86 connected as described earlier.

If you had something else in mind, just let us know.

forgot to mention something, I will not have the physical turn signals anymore just the wires.  Could I still use this method.  Here is a pic to make sure I got things straight.  Do I need to connect the negative from the corner lights to the relay or not?  Also where is a good place online I can order some of these.  Thanks a lot I really appreciate it.

also I found a place to get them but which should I get

20/30 amp spdt with resistor
10/20 amp spdt with resistor
20/40 amp spdt with resistor
10/20 amp spdt with diode
20/40 amp spdt with diode

thanks

Hi va_galant_racer, your image does not show, but if the operation of the turn signals and corner lights work as they did prior to you removing the turn signal lever, the methods I described above will work, but to be sure I would need to know how you are activating your turn signals and corner lights now.

The negative leads for each light should always be grounded and will not be connected to any relay.

Use a Bosch or Potter & Brumfield 30/40 amp SPDT relay with or without a diode.  Do a search for either of these to find places to purchase them on line.

I see your image now. Terminals 30 and 85 are correct. Terminal 87 would go to a constant 12V+ source (fused) and 87a to nothing if you want them to flash at the same time. If you want them to alternate, terminal 87a would go to where you have it shown in your diagram and nothing to terminal 87. Terminal 86 will work if connected to the negative lead of the turn signal light, but I would suggest connecting it to a chassis ground instead of tying it into the negative lead of the light.

wire one end to the POSITIVE of the parking lights and then the other end to the POSITIVE of the blinker. This will allow the light to come on with the parking lights AND will blink with the turn signal WITHOUT a relay

You could wire them together and have them flash together as Mr. Fusion suggested, but both sets of lights would be on the same flasher circuit and will flash at a different rate than they do now and possibly burn out your existing flashers. If you use relays, they will flash at the same rate they do now and the flashers can continue to safely handle the same amount of current they do now, however, we still do not know how you are operating your turn signals since you no longer use the lever and if you want them to alternate or flash together.

This is possible...the12volt.

I've done it to my Pontiac 3years ago...still works fine. I havn't had ANY problems wired this way...but the flash rate IS slightly faster, but no faster than any other car. You may have different results with other cars...

Thanks guys for your help, let me elaborate again to get everything straightened out.  I have my corner lights working on the stock switch.  That has positive and negative.  I also have my turn signals with a positive and negative wire and work off the stock switch.  I do not however have the physical turn signals on the front of my car anymore, ie the housing, bulbs, ect, just the wires.  Mr_Fusion, I have tried the way you are talking about but it didn't work.  I believe it only works for bulbs with dual fillament.  Either way I would like to use a relay and not have them blinking that fast.  So again here is what I want them to do.

If the lights are off the turn signals will blink when activated

If the lights are on, when I hit the turn signal lever then the driving lights will start to blink.

the12volt would your first post be the correct way to wire this still, leaving 87 empty.  Seeing as how it doesn't matter if they blink together or alternatly anymore.  Thanks guys for all your help, looks like we got this one pretty much solved.

Also I think I found a hella 30/40 one but have to check again.  How would that work?

The bulbs I used are not dual filament...they are standard 194 bulbs...if they were dual filament I would of never wired them this way...

ok I got the relays and hooked everything up like my picture.  Here's the problem, the turn signals only work when the corner lights are on.  I can live with it but is there any other way?
