I am not an expert with relays and still learning so please excuse my ignorance. I read the relay diagrams and this is what I want my DEI 528T to do:
I want the HID reverse lights to only come on 2 seconds after throwing the car into reverse. Reason for this is so that the HID's do not get triggered and flick on/off for the split second going between Park to Drive and Vice Versa.
I followed this diagram:
When I did that, the HID's were powered on instantly regardless of my car being in Reverse or not. Its as if the trigger wire was bypassed all together. However I think I realized what the problem was and that is I should have used the brown 87 wire supplying power to the ballast instead of the orange 87a wire. Is this correct?
This is how I had it setup:
30 (Yellow) - Car Battery
87a (Orange) - Power to Ballast
85 (Black w/ strip)- Trigger from Stock Reverse Harness
86 (Black)- Ground
87 (Brown) - Nothing
Red 12V connected to 30 (Yellow)
Thanks guys!
If my realization is correct this bring me to my final question. The maximum amps from this DEI 528T is not to exceed 15 according to the pamphlet, however for HID's I'm guessing I need almost 3x that, so I guess I need to attach another relay to get triggered by the DEI 528T and I do not know how to wire this in to the setup. Can someone tell me what connections to make?
Also what is the red wire on the DEI528T for if the yellow 30 is supplying current already? Is it to power the DEI 528T itself?
Your ballast wire should be hooked to the brown wire, terminal 87. As far as the red wire having power it is probably to run the timer.

I can chime in about adding a relay to the circuit!
Connect relay terminal 85 to your 528T Orange wire.
Connect relay terminal 86 to ground. (you've now eliminated the strain on your 528T)
Connect relay terminal 30 to your power source (since HID's pull a good amount of amps to turn on, I'd try to connect this terminal strait to the battery with an inline fuse somewhere along the way. Probably start with a 20 amp fuse and go up if needed)
And Connect relay terminal 87 to the Ballast Positive.
Relay terminal 87A will not be needed.
