hi all, i have some aftermarket fog lights that i just tapped into my headlight fuse in the fuse box. should i hook up a relay to these fog lights? if so, can anyone recommend which type i need? thanks for any replies.

You should, for a couple of different reasons. First, it will help reduce the amount of load on your headlight circuit. Second, many states require foglamps to be functional on low beam only, and a relay is the easiest way to do that. A standard Bosch-style relay will do the trick. Easy hook-up: 85 is a ground in from a spst switch. 86 is a signal tap from the low beams. 87 is out to your lamps. 30 is your battery input. Fuse appropriately, and route your wire to protect it from heat, gas, etc. If you want to use one of those switches with an internal indicator, take the signal tap to the switch, then back out to the relay. Ground 85 directly.

Any auto part store will have them or you could check with a stereo shop.

ok, i dont have a switch for my fog lights.. i just want them to come on when the low beams come on, so is it still necessary to hook up the 85 post? if not, what is the modified wiring now? thank you and i hope this post made sense!

85 will be either your parking lights(comes on with parking lights and stays on with brights) or low beams(on with low beam and off with high beam) and 86 will be ground. 30 will be 12V and 87 will be output to the fog lights. No switch neccessary.
