i have a 93 civic and my moonroof relays work intermitently...i was wondering how those relays actually work....i can open and close all the time...its just it doesnt stop feeding power when its either closed all the way or opened all the way...sometimes it would stop feeding power and sometimes it wont....is there a way to fix this?

Moonroof? I only ever heard of sunroof! LOL, Anyways, bypass the unit, find the motor wires, interrupt them, and use two relays and wire it for reverse polarity and you're set! ------------- COMMIT YOUR WAY TO JEHOVAH AND HE WILL ACT IN YOUR BEHALF.

You might look at the switch. There's no magic here, the switch simply grounds the relays to open or close from either tilt or slide if it's factory.
Darren, think 530t.
If it's aftermarket, I would expect it to try and carry on till you release the bloody switch! If it still tries to carry on, change the switch.

yea...my "sunroof" operates, but it doesn't stop when it reaches its stoping point (fully opened or closed)... how do rewire something for reverse polarity...and what does it do? do sunroof relays work with a circuit breaker to stop the motor from operating when it reaches max open or close?

First please answer our comments, we are here to help:-
1) Is it factory?
2) Does it try to carry on even when you release the switch?
If the answer to 1) is yes and the answer to 2) is no, what's the problem? Or are you leading up to closing from an alarm etc.?
In which case just ask.

its factory, no it doesnt carry on if i release the switch....if i hold the button down, sometimes the motor stops and sometimes it doesn't...i want it to stop so i dont burn the motor out at full open or close position....

It doesn't carry on if you release the switch! Well then replace the switch! ------------- COMMIT YOUR WAY TO JEHOVAH AND HE WILL ACT IN YOUR BEHALF.

what?!?.....everything works normal, i just want it to stop when it reaches full close or open position.....yes "it doesn't carry on" when i release the switch...the motor stops when i release the switch...but what im trying to get at is....having it stop feeding power so it doesnt burn the motor out....i dont want to guess when the roof is open or closed all the way...

What? You're now getting clearer on what you want to do! We were assuming you had "auto close"! I can't help you however, one of the more clever minds will be sure to chime in! ------------- COMMIT YOUR WAY TO JEHOVAH AND HE WILL ACT IN YOUR BEHALF.

The relays either work or don't so change the switch or install a 529t and take the motor wires from the relays, yes that does have limiters, or change the bloody switch!

okay....change the switch or the relays...which one is messing up....it will stop intermitently...., which stops the motor...the relay or the switch...you say change the switch, so im thinking the switch has a circuit breaker....and the relays just feed power?

Ignition on, ground each relay in turn, see how it moves, if no problems you're either imagining a non-existent problem or the switch is at fault. The nearest thing to a circuit breaker is called a fuse. This thread is starting to get silly.

okay....you know how a power window stops (the motor)...when its fully closed or opened....thats how i want my sunroof to work...i dont want to burn the motor out....i understand how a relay works, i was just wondering if there is a different type of relay that stop feeding as soon as the current starts to get high (as if the motor is burning up from not being able to move the glass)....i can think of a circuit breaker....but i was wondering if what part of the system is not making it break power....cause its an intermittent problem......sometimes it stops feed power, sometimes it doesn't....what im asking is what is causing that problem.... basically is my relay messed up, my switch, or some kind of mechanism on the motor?

If you want a circuit breaker, use a 529t (thermal breaker) otherwise test as I suggested, I'm 99% sure it's the switch. Failing that the motor.
