Here is my situation. I have a keysense wire that is normally negative and turns open when the key is inserted. I need to make this wire a negative when the key is inserted. I know there's a way to do this with a 10k resistor, but I dont remember how. If somebody could please post a diagram of this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

I presume you mean goes from +ve to negative when the key is inserted....

That can't be done with a resistor - it needs an inverter (whether an inverting relay or a transistor (etc) inverter.

No. In a 2008 Lancer the keysense is normally (-) and when a key is inserted it goes to an open or neutral state. I need it to become negative when the key is inserted. Thanks again

That's what I meant.

The answer remains the same.

Found the answer. It turns it to a positive, but I can make it work. Its techtip 1921. Thanks!

Is that an inverting relay?

No relay, just need 2 diodes, a fused 12v source and a 10k resistor. If you search for techtip 1921 I'm sure a diagram will come up.

Alas no, I find nothing in the search....

I'm curious how it was done given your description.... (since inversion is required)...

Can you post the link or fig?

Thanks in anticipation.

If you send me your email I will email it to you. It is mostly used for door triggers, but will work for my situation as well

If it turns it to a positive, it's not inverting. Simple enough, but with the componennts described, it won't achieve the goal originally described, which was a negative output when the keysense is opened up.

Using 1921 will take a wire that sits on ground normally, goes to open circuit, 1921 then converts that wire to open circuit normally and ground when activated so it doesn't invert it, I think you will need a latching relay or a source such as a remote start status output to achieve what you want.
