I understand how to have a single momentary trigger signal to multiple outputs depending on status (i.e. stacking relays so if car is off, output 1 is triggered, if car is on, output 2 is triggered, etc.)
What I am looking for is a single pulse input trigger going to multiple outputs depending on pulse count. So, if input pulses 1 time, output 1 is triggered. If input is pulsed 2 times, output 2 is triggered.
Concept: door poppers, and I have a car alarm/remote system that has only 2 outputs (for doors), and I need to open 4 doors. I would like to press button 1 one time and open front driver door, or press button 1 two times and open the rear driver side door.

Perfect application for a CD4017 1-of-10 decade counter.
But that's a ~$1.50 14-pin integrated circuit that would need a transistor of FET buffet to drive relays or outputs....

Oh, circutry like that does not bother me. I took a Varad LED controller and before I made my little add-on, it would only control 4 leds. Now it controls as many as I want in 4 zones.
I will look up the CD4017. Thanks!

This chip actually fixes another circuit I have been wanting to build. This will work perfectly for my LED clock I am building.
However, for the doors, not sure it will work. I need a delay/counter. basically, 1 pulse within 3 seconds = output 1, 2 pulses within 3 seconds = output 2. From what I have been looking at, if I pulse 2 times, I will trigger front door, then back door. Not exactly what I am looking for. But thanks for the help!!!

One pulse in three seconds opens the drivers door? That will drive you crazy waiting 3 seconds for the door to open.
If it were my car I would get a keyless or alarm system that has more outputs. Pulse counting is not the best way to open doors on a car. ------------- Kevin Pierson

Well, I was using 3 seconds as an example...lol But that is the general idea.
As for another controller, I have one that has 8 outputs, but the distance is CRAP! About 4-5 feet TOPS (and that is on a good day). The system I am using now gives me about 150 feet. Just trying to refrain from spending another few hundred $$$ when I have other places that needs to go.

The 4017 can do variable delays by diode-ORing (connecting) successive outputs together (with diodes).
If the 9 outputs ain't enough, cascade more 4017s.
[Reset to zero after n pulses by connecting the nth output to reset (where n is output 0,1,2...8,9 - not 1,2,3...9,10 as some label the outputs).]
