I am looking for a recommendation to set up a wireless control for the horns in my Jeep. I would like the actuator to be a large round button rather than the usual key fob control. I   want to mount the   transmitter/buttor with double sided 3M foam tape on the   center of my steering wheel. I would like to buy the controls, rather than build them. I am not too concerned with where the receiver and relay will mount...I have many options there.

Thanks

Why wireless? (Do you like replacing batteries?)

Oldspark I was struggling for a similar answer!

Amateurs assume, don't test and have problems; pros test first. I am not a free install service.

I can't cleanly route a wire from my steering wheel to under the dash let alone the inability to turn the steering wheel issue. I am under the impression 12v wireless systems are cheap and I consider this to be a viable solution.

What happened to the original slip ring? (AFAIK even WWII Jeeps had them.)

As I suppose it means you don;t mind replacing the battery(s) - preventatively I presume.

Has the pencil that goes through the wheel failed?
Or are you installing air horns?
What exactly are you trying to achieve because your idea is cumbersome and probably doomed to fail.

Don't want to be a jerk, but can someone please point me to a source for   a cheap wireless tx/rx device and not worry about the   state of my vehicle or why I   want to accomplish the things I   am setting out to do?

I   worked at Bell Telephone LAbs in Core Research for 22 yrs. No, my idea is not doomed to fail.

Thanks

Not that you are a jerk, but we are so used to people missing the obvious, or fitting non-legal things, etc.

There are lots of remote controls - just search.

You are better analysing them yourself rather rather than us asking what battery life; what security; what color, size and relay etc.
(It's merely research put into product!)

Try a door chime remote if nothing else works.

Yes please remember where WE ARE coming from, it's called professional liability, and legal liability, hence hard wiring preferred.
Bell push is not a great idea, too much other stuff, garage door openers etc. on the same frequency.

Thanks Howie (the first & only!)

I too was thinking or legality - not that it is likely to be noticed before the accident!
I tried the reverse approach to see wth it wasn't a "standard" steering column.

Now I wonder why a transistor-inventing employee who - like me - probably understands why wormholes are anything but tubular, thinks not to search via normal channels nor post the definers (start or ground (pun intended!) state, baseline, t(s)=0 etc.
This is a public forum - it is not restricted! (Despite that, I'm still here LOL!)

I'm still trying to work out wth our poster is trying to achieve, apart from what happens if the Jeep has a steering wheel airbag.
He's so bright he's ASSUMING we know what he wants to do.

Ding!

(Or do you say "klang!"?)

Anyhow, hopefully that sound rings a bell, like a "Dong".
