Hi guys! Great forum! I am hoping someone can help me out. Im broke and am selling my car for cash. I am trying to fix her all up the best I can. Here is my situation. I have a 83 xj6 jaguar with a 93 Chevy Camaro Engine V8 LT1. It was customly wired by a unknown company to me and here is where the fun starts.

My low beam headlights will work only on the driver side. However if I activate my brights all four bulbs light up just fine. I found the relay that operates my lights and decided to order the part.

Its a Hella 4RD001836-05 12V.

Hella does not have this on their catalog. Nor is it listed in products that are discontinued. Cant find it for the life of mine on the web! This conversion was obviously done after 93, and I just dont understand why I can find any relays of this model. I brought it into Napa only for the guy to tell me "Good Luck".

Ill be straight here. I dont know alot about cars. Never messed with a relay before. I can install them and thats it.

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me find a suitable relay. Napa said if I can match up the diagram on the relay to another one I should be fine. I just dont know how to read the diagram or where to start.

Apparently its a C38616-X also known as P2040-41476. Its for a jaguar xj6 1983.DUH! I thought the guy would use a different relay since he rewired the whole thing. These babys are hard to find. 4 hrs of researching and finally! BTW Hella is terrible for being user friendly! And evil for not keeping records of their discontinued products lol.

That's a standard lighting relay, a more modern type with the same pin numbers should suffice, having said that the fact the low beams work only on one side suggests:-
a) Bulb failure.
b) Fuse.
c) Possibly bad connection.
Time out with a DMM is required though a bulb holder will do equally as well.

I've just Googled Hella and Bosch automotive relays, I'm not allowed to mention names as advertising but you might like to do the same or contact a specialist Hella distributor.

Ah yes - one of those lovely "toggle" relays.

I have one from a SAAB with its 4017 "one of ten" decade counter chip which they use as a divide-by-TWO counter. We call that a flip flop...

I like the dual-inverter methods like...

(an SPST to supply power, then that toggle circuit to control an SPDT relay, else power/ground separate SPST relays - usually with no need for a "master power" relay...)
