Relay is making a Buzzing noise anytime the coil actives or deactivates. 86 is to a dimming dome light wire it dims up then dims down on shut off... Is the dimming what is causing the noise? How do I get around it? When I let the dome light get fully powered then touch the wire to 86 it functions normally and gives just a click. Same on Deactivate... Already tried out a second relay and same issue... Thoughts?

yes, it's because the voltage is slowly decreasing. you can add a diode in series with the relay coil and a capacitor across the coil. the diode will block flow as the voltage decreases, the capacitor will store energy, allowing the relay to turn off cleanly. a 1N400x will be fine for the diode. 1000uF 16Volt or higher for the capacitor...it will be an electrolytic type.

Read the entire following link.  There is a diagram in there that will suit your needs.

The diagrams you need are on page 3

Ween & IaaI, Thanks... that looks like it will solve my issue... the dome wire at 86 already is run with a Diode band towards 86... So all I need to add is the  1000uF 16Volt or higher for the capacitor... any specific advice on size? 16-25v or just as close as i can get to 16v as long as it's above? also with doing this what kinda heat will the cap produce? Should I be worred about shielding it or just heat srink it up?

also Ween thanks for the info on catching the Reverse wire I found it up near the mirror and traced it back down to the passenger kickpanel worked like a champ...

I used a 1n4004 for the diode...

You know after thinking about that i've put the cap in the wrong place there haven't I... it needs to be across 85 and 86 on the other relay... and the diode needs to move from the dome light wire to the wire from 87a to 86 band towards 86... is it going to cause any issues with the other input wires to 86? the 3 diodes should stop any issues correct?

Mark, I went and got a 1000uf 35v Cap today... but i'm confused about a couple of things... first off this will only handle the buzz on shut down but won't really help with the buzz on start up correct?  second in the other thread you all mentioned polarity and making sure it's wired correctly this Capacitor doesn't show polarity it only has Arrows as if it's made to run in series with power flowing through it directionally... just a little confused and needing a little more information...

The arrows point to the negative connection.

Grabbed the multimeter and figured it out before you posted up... it worked like a champ... Thanks again man... Update for everyone else... this is the fix for the buzzing relay it even handles the buzz on start up as well as shut down... =-)
