I would like to delay DRL's coming on when car is cranked to start. The LED's dim and I'm guessing this is not good for them. I have a 528T and need to know if the below wiring is correct for a positive trigger input to delay 5 seconds:

30 - Constant 12V
87a - Not used
87 - To DRL 12V
Red - Constant 12V
Black - Ground
BLACK/ White Trigger - Ignition 12V
Blue Loop - Cut

No!
Red to constant 12v+ fused 2 amp.
Black to ground.
Brown 87 NOT used.
Orange 87a from power source (ignition for DRLs)
Yellow 30 to DRLs.
BLACK/ white loop to STARTER
Cut blue loop.
Set delay 3 seconds
This will disable the DRLs until engine is running.
You should be more observant, the last time I read the instructions about 10 years ago that was one of the examples given.

Starter? Is that 12v signal from starter wire?

Yes so they will only turn on 3 or 5 if you prefer seconds AFTER you've started the car and turn off automatically with the ignition switch.

Next question: My starter is located in between the valley on my engine block under the intake manifold. Can I tap into the fusebox?

Pick it up ignition switch. What car, make model and year? That will help.

Dimming of the LEDs won't hurt them.

That's all I wanted to say, but I also wrote the following trivia...:

[ Not that I'm not thinking of a similar setup for my car, but I have changed my 3W headlight parkers for 10W halogens and drive with parkers on as DRLs.
But I'm considering an automated method...
I could use the UIBI principle (a relay energised when the dash charge light is extinguished, ie, after the car has started), but I often stop the engine and coast down hills.   (I intend to fit an ignition kill so I don't have to turn off the IGN for the latter, but until then, IGN isn't satisfactory for DRL control.)
But maybe a UIBI that latches and is turned off after a delay from (engine off and) a handbrake or door switch (or additional manual switch). With the 528T's 60 second delay, the DRLs make nice
front puddle lights. (Hey Howard & others - I am actually considering those DEI relays. ME!!) ]

The relay is going to be located in the engine bay next to the fuse box so that's why I was asked if it is possible to tap in there. My starter wire is yellow at the ignition switch (installed my own remote start).

Thanks for the help on the wiring for the 528T. I was looking at the directions from 1991 and that's where I got the first wiring from. https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/uploads/48A_528t_inst.gif

Not meant to be installed in the engine bay, remove immediately and relocate near to ignition loom.
Unless you have room inside the fusebox!
It won't take the damp, heat and vibration.

If I take it out of the engine bay, I will have to run wires into the engine bay from where the 528T is (ignition harness). I was planning on using plasti dip on the 528T because of it being in the engine bay.

Think this through, look at the instructions for installations issued by nearly all the reputable alarm-R/S manufacturers:-
"Do not mount ECU (brain) in engine bay".
Why do you think they bother with that?
You would need to completely enclose it in a water-proof container, even then the heat and vibration will probably get to it.
