Cutting Ground Circuit

Hi,
One of the moderators one my website has a Celica similar to mine, and he had a question about how he could set his sidemarkers which are always on to flash when his turn signals are on, and stay on constantly when his turn signals are off.

I was thinking that he'd just need a relay that would break the sidemarker ground circuit when the blinkers blink. I have installed my own alarm and remote start with no problems, but I've read about relays on a few different sites, and I can't quite get the concept of how it works to click in my head. It's still pretty confusing to me, but below is what I thought might work.

30 - Ground wire from sidemarker
87a - Chassis ground
87 - Fused +12 volts
85 - Blinker wire(would have +12 volts when the blinker is on and is blinking)
86 - Chassis ground

Would this work, or should I be hooking up the relay in a different way? Thanks!

85- ground, 86- turn signal, 30- one side of the ground or power of side marker(you have to cut it), 87- other side of 30. Basically you will be wiring a relay similar to a starter kill relay. You will need two relays, one for each marker light.

I've been sick lately, sorry I won't be on much.

Auex, wouldn't that relay make it so that the sidemarkers only blink when the turn signals blink, but stay off the rest of the time? He wants his sidemarkers to stay on all of the time, except when his blinkers are blinking. Here's what I'm thinking of telling him now:

85 - Ground
86 - Turn Signal
30 - One side of ground wire
87a - Other side of ground wire
87 - Not hooked up to anything

Would that do the trick? Thanks!
