Hello,

We have a Hyundai 6000SE generator powering a 2.5kW borehole pump on our allotment site. When water is required the process is to start the generator via the ignition switch. The generator runs for one minute, to warm up, and then the pump kicks in. The generator manufacturer states that the pump should stop before the generator otherwise we could damage the AVR.

Can anyone suggest a circuit, probably using timer delay relays that allows the generator to run on for, say 30 secs, after the ignition switch is turned off?

The control system is 12Vdc and the pump is 240Vdc.

You want two standard relays.

One wires as follows:
Ground to pin 85
Positive trigger that runs your pump to pin 86
Constant 12v+ to pin 87a
And a wire from pin 30 that goes to pin 86 on another relay wired as the constant to momentary output relay at the following link:

Your link does not work. As drawn this only gives a half of a second. It is not going to be able to give 30 seconds.

It says right in the diagram to adjust timed output to change the value of the capacitor. "Electrical engineer with 19 years in the industry AND an onan generator specialist". This setup will do what you want. Or you can purchase a timer module. I.e. A pac tr7......

Let me know what value capacitor he needs to achieve a 30 second delay. I guess what I meant to say was it is not going to be practical with just the capacitor. It will be much more practical for him to use a transistor and a capacitor. A much smaller value capacitor will work if used in conjunction with a transistor. Maybe you can draw that up for him.

Firstly, my apologies. I did NOT see that the pump is 240v

My setup will work but not with a standard relay.

I would recommend a rib relay that will control both the 240v AC as well as the 12v DC.

A relay that can do this is the RIBH2C

It comes with a schematic ofngeneric wiring but for your needs you would hook commit from the pump to the rib white/yellow wire. And the hot wire to the pump goes to the rib white/brown wire. Then a constant 12v goes to the rib blue wire. And the rib yellow wire would go to pin 86 of a standard Bosch relay wired as the diagram in the link I sent you for constant to momentary output. Take the value of the capacitor in the diagram and multiply it appropriately for whatever time you desire. 15,30,45 seconds etc.
