Modifying Latched On/Off Relay Diagram

This is concerning:
     32 - Latched On/Off Output Using a Single Momentary Negative Pulse - Positive Output

The post goes on to say:
     "While this diagram shows how to create a latch using multiple SPDT relays, you are better off using a single latching relay"

Questions:
1. I have a DPST relay. How would I wire this up as a latching relay, or would this relay not work in this instance?
2. While the post is excellent and easy to wire up, the logic is hard for me to follow. Is there a schematic available to assist me with what is happening there?

I am using this in conjunction with a remote starter to turn on/off the rear defrost with the remote starter's AUX2 (momentary ground) function. I'm also going to activate the hazard lights for a visual confirmation that the AUX2 circuit was activated/deactivated.

1. No, a DPST relay cannot be substituted for three of the four SPDT relays in my diagram.

2. No schematic is available for the entire diagram. Initially look at each relay as the coil not being activated and the normally closed contacts closed and the normally open contacts open, then follow each change and signal path with each relay as the momentary switch provides an output.
