Low Fuel Light Indicator

I've installed a Fuel Gauge Interface Module that will allow me to use an OEM fuel sending unit with aftermarket gauges. The module has a circuit that will apply a ground to an LED to give you an indication of Low Fuel (i.e., "Low Fuel light. Grounded when 15% fuel remains, 20 milliamps max current". The module has a circuit to buffer the actual fuel level needle on the gauge to keep it steady, but not for the Low Fuel circuit. Once the fuel level gets down to approx. 3 gallons, the Low Fuel circuit activates, illuminating the light, but doesn't latch so the LED flashes as the fuel moves around in the unbaffled tank while driving. It will eventually stay on steady when the fuel gets low enough, but during the transition it flashes and is very annoying and distracting.

I am looking for a recommendation for a circuit (latching relay?) that, once activated, will latch keeping the LED steady until the ignition key is turned off. Currently the module provides a ground to the LED but I can wire the LED so that it is activated by either a ground or 12v. I assume the 20mA max Interface Module circuit (ground) is sufficient to activate a relay.

20 mA is not enough to trigger a standard relay. What you can do is wire a transistor to your 20 mA output and have the transistor trigger a relay.

24mA will drive a reed relay like the PRMA1A12 which has a 1000 ohm coil.
