I'm looking to replace some relays, and I'm trying to figure out what the differences are, and the best way to test them.

Got to be honest, until now I hadn't realised there was such a wide variety of 12V relays, even for a given amperage. The particular ones I'm looking, despite being Tycos, seem to have been particular to a specific model, and are nolonger made. One of the differences seems to be the impedance across the input coil. I'm worried that if I fit the wrong spec, it either won't work, or will damage the electronics.

What vehicle are you trying to replace a relay in? If the resistance of the coil is a higher value than the original you will not hurt any of the electronics. Even with a slightly lower resistance, chances of hurting something is slim to none.
