I'm hoping someone can help me work through this issue. I'm trying to replace my 48v golf cart key switch with a latching push button. The key switch basically connects the 48v battery pack to the solenoid. Can someone walk me through how that would work? Would I need a 48v relay? Can I trigger a 48v relay with a 12v source?

I don't know what I'm talking about here but my guess on this would be to use a 48v relay:
1) 48v Batter to 12v reducer
2) 12v reducer to switch
3) Switch to 86
4) ground to 85 (Which ground? 48v battery ground or 12v reducer ground)
5) 30 - 48v in
6) 87 - 48v out

OR...Scrap this plan, there's a better way. If there is a better way, what is it?

You may just try sticking with 48VDC components to eliminate the need for a voltage regulator or a 48VDC relay with 12V coils.

I think I solved the problem. Use a solid state relay that allows low voltage to switch high voltage. So I can use a 12v switch to open and close the contact on the 48v side. I'd love any other ideas if anyone has them.
