I just installed a GM receiver with fobs in my 2001 GMC Sierra. (my truck did not have the keyless option installed).
On the fuse panel it says..
"When equipped with power locks without keyless entry, install 30A fuse.
When equipped with power locks and keyless entry, install relay"
I assume I would get this relay at the dealer and place it in place of the 30A fuse that is there now??

The fuse panel diagram shows a dotted line around an area which represents where the relay will go.

I went to the GMC dealer with the fuse panel diagram and he just looks at me and says "Na, it should work with just the 30a fuse".

Should I go to a diferent dealership?  Can I get this item at Radio Shack?

Obviously this is not my field, but I have seen some great answers here and hope someone has some thoughts on this.

Thanks  >>Skip

if GM says there is suppose to have a relay then install one there. they do it for a reason. Granted it might work when you keep the 30a fuse but gm had a reason for using a relay to throw power to the door locks.

Well, thats part of the problem...it doesn't work with just the 30A fuse.

The area that is outlined on the fuse cover diagram showing where the relay should go covers where the 30A fuses is at as well as several surrounding areas which also have contact points.  I'm guessing that the Relay ties in the keyless receiver as well as supply power.

I think I will be going to another GMC dealer to try again.
