I can't manage to find any crimp connectors for 18+ gauge wire around here.
So I want to know if it would be safe soldering a wire onto a relay.
If you have any tips for making it stick that would be helpful too.
ok well the best thing i can tell you is if you are going to solder this on there you should take the soldering iron and heat the terminal of the relay quikly and put some solder there first before attaching the wire then tin your wire you are going to attach, this is done by heating the wire and letting solder flow through the wire to make it a stiff wire. Then take the soldering iron and heat the terminal again this time lay your wire on the terminal and take the soldering iron off the relay and just hold your wire there untill solder cools. but it would be much easier to just get the right push connects to crimp on these should be avilable at any radio shack or home depot has them.
Never thought of home depot for such a thing, no radio shack doesn't carry crimps that fit large guage wires.
Thanks. :)
yeah home depot has them in the electrical section gardner bender makes them .If they dont have them in stock i know auto zone may have something and r and s but definately home depot haq them. good luck.
partsexpress has the relay connectors that have wire leads included. u can solder wire to wire then or whatever wire to wire connection u want.

the relay sockets they sell make things a lot easier, if you cant find the terminals you can solder, i have done it before, nothing special. Just put the wire (or some of it) throught the hole in the terminal (if it has one), then twist it around, heat it for a few seconds and put some solder on, shrink wrap is nice too.
I found the crimp on connectors I was looking for on the radio shack website. Turns out that in the store they had them covered up with about 20 of the wrong connectors so I missed them on my first visit...
I know partsexpress has the connectors, but I bought everything I need from them already and it isn't worth it to buy just connectors.
I did my "radio on, key off" succesfully without them so it doesn't matter anyway.
Remote starter and power locks are my next project but I ran out of money for the month. Dang college bills...
Thanks for the replies everyone. :)
