I have a 1991 VW GTi, and a Sony XAV-7W. I want to disable the brake sequence thing so I can have video running, but I also want to set up a toggle switch so I can flip it on and off. I've searched all over for a wiring diagram, but haven't run into any luck yet. Thanks for helping.

Does your unit just require you to push the parking brake, or is there an actual sequence you have to do to get the video to appear?

After combing the installation manual and operating instructions, I found that there is only the connection to the parking brake switch lead and the operating instructions say that only the parking brake needs to be engaged.  Nothing else in the literature that I've read leads me to beleive that there is any kind of brake sequence to go through.  The actual unit isn't installed because I want to do it right the first time and save the hassle of having to pull it out again.  What I want to so is have the video running without having to engage the parking brake and set up a toggle switch to turn it on and off in case the long arm of the law or any other authority figures take a peek inside my ride.  I know I can do it if I have a wiring diagram. Thanks for the quick response to my question also.

Just run the e-brake through a toggle switch to ground.

if you run the e-brake wire through a toggle sitch to ground, your ebrake light will probably stay on while you are driving. If this doesn't bother you then never mind. It would drive me crazy. You can still do that but I would suggest diode isolating a seperate ground through a toggle switch. something like this:

Why would you do that? Maybe I should of Clarified what I said, just run the e-brake wire from the radio through a toggle switch, I assumed we would have understood that we were talking about the radio's wiring and not the car's. You never hook it up to the car's e-brake wire, therefore the light never turns on.

Thanks for the help guys.  What auex said  was also suggested by a few other people that I've talked to about this.  I guess we'll see what happens when I do my install, but I'm sure everythign will work out.  Thanks again.

Just take the Sony parking brake input wire and wire in an on/off toggle switch and ground this wire to chassis. When you have it off, this breaks the conenction and when you have it on it connects to ground. Simple and effective.

The reason I suggested integrating the parking brake into the circuit is so that he will be able to demonstrate to a police officer, should he be pulled over, that the video function of the unit will only operate with the parking brake on. Obviously this isn't neccessary but it would be nice.
