Subject: door lock relay problem

I recently bought actuators from e-bay to add to my alarm system. They are the type that have 2 wires and to lock and unlock the two wires need to switch polarity. I have tried the combinations for the relay hookups on the site and every time i hook the ground up to both 87a it blows the fuse on the +12 line. any advice would be greatly appricated.

What happens when you hook it up without a relay. could be a short in actuators.
If it works ok without relay check wires again, relays, switches

good luck

That would mean that you have +12V at pin 30? That is wrong, here is a diagram that will help, hopefully.

I have it hooked up exactly like the above diagram, except i don't have the 87a's hooked up to a ground because every time i hook those up to a ground it blows the fuse. without it hooked up to the ground it works fine the currents alternate for lock and unlock, untill i hook up the wires to the actuators. After i hook up the wires to the actuator it shows a +12 reading on both 30's. any ideas? please help, thanks

you most likely have  SPST relays instead of SPDT

That would explain it.

this diagram only applies if the "trigger" wires from the alarm provide a pulsed ground (-) to lock/unlock. If they provide a pulsed positive (+) instead, you will have to ground the opposite 85/86 terminal to allow the relay to work. Actually, my alarm allowed me to use either pulsed (-) or (+), I just chose to use the (-).

get a DEI 451M door lock relay module on ebay

put the WHITE/ black and BROWN / black wires to ground

put the purple and PURPLE / black wire(s) to 12v

the remaining blue/black and GREEN/ black wires will be your lock and unlock output wires which can be ran to the actuators
