My Caddy is frequently failing to spin the starter motor; changing the starter has not cured the problem. I can hear a distinct click when this happens. The wiring that I can see looks fine.

Is there another relay in the starter circuit that I should be looking for or aby suggestions? I have 2 sets of keys, both give the same effect.

Sounds like you could have a bad solenoid.

Test to see that your starter is actually giving 12 volts to the starter when it fails. Post your results

The solenoid is built into the starter so that should be OK with a new one. The connection to the solenoid is inaccessible without a car hoist but I now suspect the gear select safety switch as the problem. I know Buicks had a problem with this.

there is a relay that can fail what happens is condensation from rain and atmospher can get it it there should be  a relay pannel in either the car (in fuse pannel ) or in the engine locate the relay that has to do with the starter and take it out now using a pencil eraser scrath off all ends with it meaning all the metal objects from the bottom of relay any help with more test email me djfearny@aol.com
