now I'm just trying to figure out what's the best way to tap into the door trigger wire? Should just splice the door trigger wire and get a connection that way?

yea thats the best way, run wire parralell up to the stipped part, keep strands straight, wrap around, solder, tape, then tape again. solid connection ahha
