Ok guys im ok with electrical on a house but on a car not so much....so here it it can someone gice a pic of a relay set up if im going to splice into the wire for the head lights.  i really just need to know where the numbers on the relat connect to ...

please be specific as possible.

Hi fireresqdog, I hope you are using an automotive relay, I assume you are.
Turn the relay up side down and you will see the spade terminals.
Usually cast into the plastic body of the relay you will see some numbers.
The numbers are - 30, 85,86 and 87 and the list below will give you the wire connections : -

30 goes to the positive terminal of your battery via a fuse.

85 goes the your switch and then to your Ignition circuit.

86 goes to earth, you can usually use the screw that you secure the relay with as the earth.

87 goes to the positive wire (s) on your fog lights.

By wiring the switch wire to the ignition circuit, the fog lights will turn off when you turn your ignition off thus avoiding the chance of leaving the fog lights on by accident.

I heard there was a special kind of relay that only kicked on if it got two pulses.  So that if I wanted fog lights to come on with parking lights, but did not want to have to wire another switch, i could flip the parking lights from off to on to off to on and then parking and fog would be on?  Anyone know what this relay is called?
