I bought a starter kill awhile ago and looking at the relay, it just doesn't look right.

On 86 wire going to Alarm    -      On 87a wire going to Starter

On 85 wire going in conjunction to  wire 30 going to Starter(keys)  with diode going from 86 to 85.

Is this starter kill right?  I've been seeing all sorts of starter kills but none like the one I have.

Help me out.

diode between 86 and 85 is an integral part of relay to avoid voltage spike from coil deenergizing.

Questions about diodes from a newbie:

-Do you solder the diode directly to poles 86 and 85?
-Also, after soldering a diode into a wire (one), what's the best way to prevent the hard metal leads of the diode from breaking off?  It seems like they're fragile.  Is there some kind of protector you could put over the diode, like a heat shrink tubing, or does it need room for heat dissipation?

Thanks!
