Well, the car is a 98 Civic and the owner wants to keep the stock radio (because he doesnt want to lose his current keyless entry), and wants to put in an aftermarket deck in replace of the pocket or DIN below by the cupholders. I was wondering if anyone can make me a diagram of how to make the 2 switch on and off, but never on at the same time. Plus the stock radio is only that... A radio. So any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA!
When I put decks in civics like that I just use a reverse harness and give the stock constant power, accessory power, and ground. That way it powers up but no sound comes out and the factory keyless and domelight will still work while the aftermarket deck operates as normal.
Yeah, buy the t-harness and be done with it. Don't do anything stupid like install a switch to the factory radio. Also the only thing the Factory stereo needs on the main harness is power and ground, leave the green plug/plugs plugged in.

you can take the stock radio buy the metra harness 1720t and put the stock radio in the dash behind the cig lighter. generally you have to take the faceplate off thestock radio to make it fit (just a screw on either side) and the fact keyless will work fine along with the domelight if you plug in the green plugs. this way you can put the aftermarket where the stock one goes and the guy can keep his cup holders. Dunno if you know this or not but on the 96-98 civics even if there isnt fact. keyless if you replace the stock deck the domelight will not work anymore. In order to make it work there are two wires in the green plug that you must hook together. If you hook the light GREEN/ red to the light GREEN/ black the domelight will work again.

good advice fbird. i was hoping someone had brought this up. i have seen the two dome light wires youre talking about to be one light green with a pink tracer and the other was light green with a blue tracer.
if on the off chance you ever get a customer you cant talk out of installing an aftermarket in addition to the factory, you could power both units, then using the remote output of your new deck to trigger the 85 or 86 pin on your relay bank. Essentially youd need a relay for every speaker wire, both positive and negative. That way only one deck could power the speakers at any given time
