Hello

I'm looking to repair a flaky headlight switch/wiring on my 86 Prelude.  As far as I can tell, the lighting switch (left-side turnsignal stick) is double pole, with one pole activating the flip-up motor and the other activating the headlight relay.  On cold/damp days it can take up to 3 or 4 minutes for the headlights to come on.  The headlights will also turn off momentarily (scary...) if I: a)signal left too hard, b)firmly wiggle/flex the stick in most directions) The flip-up motor always works as it should.  I've rotated the relays in the fuse box and the problem still exists.  Problem is likely in the combination switch or wiring?

Soooo....  As replacing the entire combination switch is highly expesive, is there an easy way to dissassemble the left-side stick to have a look at the switches/wires?  If I decide to bypass the switch/wires inside the stick in favour of a dash-mounted alternative, which wires (having trouble finding color codes for those) out of the giant wiring harness bundle am I looking for?

  1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
  2. Remove steering wheel.
  3. Remove steering column upper and lower attaching screws, then remove covers.
  4. On models equipped with cruise control, remove cruise control slip ring.
  5. Remove turn signal cancelling sleeve.
  6. Disconnect wiring harness from switch.
  7. Remove screws securing combination switch, then remove switch.
  8. Reverse procedure to install.
