I need some help here, I've got a 95 Caprice and I'm trying to install this switch to keep the engine running. It's a toggle connected to a relay. I can't figure out what I'm supposed to connect to where.

87 - purple wire
86 - black (ground)
86 - orange
30 - red (power?)

Heres a picture that includes the toggle. https://tinypic.com/1gssbl

Need more info. If you are trying to control the Relay with the switch that is easy but I can not determine what you are going to do with it when you finish.

I will try to help anyways.

85 and 86 are the coil of the relay. one of them goes to ground and the other goes to the switch. 87, 87a and 30 are the relay Contacts

30 is the common post

87 is normally OPEN and 87a is Normally CLOSED

I want to be able to start my car with my key. Then flip the switch and turn the key to off but still have the engine running. It's a ex-squad car thing, my 93 Caprice had it installed when I bought the car, and I would like to do it to this one. I know I could just get a remote start, but I dont have the funds for one right now.

Ah ha...Thanks. Now, another question. How hard would it be to add so that If the brake is pushed then the car would just shut off? I was toying with that idea for a couple days.

Do you have a break switch that has 2 wires or a break switch that just provides a ground to the lights?

Can you add another switch to the break peddal?

You could just add a relay to the system if you could add another switch.

just have a standard relay latch when the car is started and unlatch when you push the pedal.

I am not sure if it is actually the Acc wire you need to cut. I would call it the Run position.

The wire you need is not the Hot to the switch but the one that goes on when you turn the key just half a turn before start. You know the one that makes the Idiot lights come on in the dash.
