I have an ambulance that has 2 compartment doors with magnetic switches. When either one is opened (+12v), that voltage should turn on a set of interior lights. When BOTH doors are closed the lights should go out. Can I do this with a relay/relays? Thanks for any help!

yes it should be possible, just use the ground as a trigger to pass on the 12v to the interior lights, use one for each door.

hmmm.... was that the right wire?

So you are trying to set it up like a domelight, if either one or both of the doors open the lights turn on right? It is easy to do, if you need a diagram then just post a reply.

Don't really need the relays, just wire the switches in parallel.

Auex,

Would love to have a diagram, wiring in parallel doesn't work probably because the dome light is also controlled by a wall switch. Thanks!

Mikey,
Do you want the wall switch to override the other 2 or be required for operation?
Our ambulances are wired so that either the wall switch or either compartment door will turn the dome light on, as long as the master is on.
All this would be would be to have the wall switch and both door switches wired in parallel, so that any 1 will turn the dome light on. If switch off and doors are closed then the dome is off

The wall switch now overrides the door switches, that's the way it should be. My problem is that each door trigger which is grounded when closed and +12vdc when opened, works fine by itself. I can't seem to add the second trigger....seems that when both doors are connected, if only one door is opened the other door grounds that +12vdc and prevents the relay from operating. Am I explaining that correctly? This is a remounted ambulance that never came with a wiring diagram so I'm mostly in the dark (literally hahaha). Thanks for any help!

Well what I would do is wire the ground to constantly be at the lights and also wire the door switches/wall switch to pass a ground. Then wire a relay like the one below. If you want the wall switch to override the system then another relay would be required. Relay is a SPDT. I know this would require rewiring most of the existing system. This would take care of the issue you have with the doors doint wierd things with preventing the lights from working.
