Hello,

I've been working on my keyless entry lately and I've been having some trouble getting the illuminated entry to work. I've got a keyless entry module with a negative illuminated entry output, and my door triggers are negative('94 Celica), but when I put the wire from the brain into the door trigger wire, illuminated entry doesn't work and my siren doesn't chirp either, but my doors still unlock. It seems like there's a short, so I took out the wires, and I'm wondering if it's necessary to have a relay like the one in this diagram: https://www.the12volt.com/relays/page4.asp

Also, I was wondering if it's possible to hook other devices up to this, such as the strobes in my vents and my neon, so that when I unlock the car those will turn on too.

Thanks!

You have to use a relay for illuminated entry, like this diagram says:

The illuminated entry output from the alarm is usually 200-300 mA max, which is not enough to ground the door trigger circuit and turn the dome light on.  It's possible to burn the circuit out by wiring it without a relay, so hopefully you didn't hurt it.  Most accessory outputs from alarms require external relays, unless the install manual specifies that there is an on-board relay for the accessory output you're working with.

If you wanted to add your strobe/neon devices triggering from your illuminated entry output, you would need a second relay to control those devices:

85: fused +12v constant

86: illuminated entry (-) output from alarm

30: fused +12v constant (will be used to power your aux devices - neon etc)

87: to +12v side of devices (strobe, neon, etc)

and ground the ground wire of the strobe/neon/etc devices.

The strobe/neon devices would turn on when you disarm (during the illuminated entry), and turn off when your illuminated entry turns off (after the illuminated entry delay times out, or when you turn the key.. whichever comes first).

Thanks,

So terminals 85 and 30 of the 2nd relay will go to the same power source that I want to power the neons? And terminal 87a isn't used for anything, right?
