Subject: Low Oil Pressure Cutoff?

My son has a bad habit of not checking his oil so I'd like to install a circuit that would send the necesary signal to the fuel cutoff switch in the trunk of his Escort to cutoff the flow of fuel to the engine if low oil pressure is detected by the sending unit. This seems like a simple problem to solve but I'm not sure. Any help would be great.

I suppose you could pull the cluster and find the wire that sends a signal to the oil light, if it's not data. That could control a relay that can control the fuel pump relay under the hood. Is it worth all that?

What do you mean by "if it's not data"? I think it would be worth a little trouble considering the cost of a new engine. Might be easier to send a signal of some kind based on low oil pressure, to the inertia switch in the truck. This switch detects a crash and shuts of the flow of fuel.

Thanks Mike for the reply.

he means a square form transmission from the pcm (powertrain control module) depending on the year i wouldn't be sure you'll have to let me know the year ,but if it's an older escort i'm sure it dont. you can do what he suggested it will work if you tie in a relay to the inertia switch or fuel pump relay respectfully after the relay or switch and befor the pump it self. if you give me the year i can get you the schematics and the info you need to wire it up. just pm when you read this..

i'm a automotive tech/mech and if most of the people that owned cars did this i probably wounldnt do as many motor jobs as i do. so try not to tell anyone,ha ha

i would just wire a relay coming off the oil light on the cluster to the starter wire, so if the light is on it will not start the car at all, would be just like a starter kill but triggered by the light and wont kill the fuel when he is driving. just wont allow him to restart the car if he turns it off and parks
