Does anyone know through experience what kind of door lock relay I need to setup on my 1990 Ford Taurus GL ? It's just a single lock/unlock switch on each door that unselectively operates all the doors simultaneously....

Thanks in advance!

If the vehicle originally came with keyless entry ( factory ) then it should be a positive trigger type of door lock and will have a smaller wire.  If it didn't it will be a five wire and it will have a larger wire.  The wire colors are pink and yellow for lock and pink and light green for unlock.  The wires are located in the drivers kick and in a harness coming from the door.

excellent! thanks.

My car doesn't have keyless entry so....

Now, I guess I can just follow the 5 wire relay diagram found somewhere here...Okay I found the diagram; and i can see that aside from the pink wires you described (i assumed they're from the switch) that I need separate wires coming from the lock motor for lock & unlock. The thing I'd like to know is if these wires can be tapped into in the same harness under the kick panel- and if so how can Identify them? I'd rather not have to rip up the door trim just to ident. the wires cuz it's been a beeetch trying to open it up. (quite unsuccessfully in the past).

Oh and another thing, if you don't mind. This isn't quite related but would you have any idea why the driver's power window controls for the passenger sides don't work yet all the driver side windows work? The passenger controls work, just not from the driver. Also, the rear defroster doesn't work either. I've checked all the fuses that I know exist and so far nothing...

Anyways, I should probably write a new thread for that last one so please give priority to my first question.

 Thanks a bunch!

The wires will test +12v  when you use the switch for the respective wire.  Also when you cut one of the wires the door locks will stop working.  So find one of the wires test it, cut it, try the switch ( be sure not to short either end to ground ), and connect that wire to the relay and do the same for the other wire.  If you cut a wire and the locks still work or if only the drivers door stops working reconnect it ( you either have the wrong wire or you have only a drivers door wire).   Best guess about the window is either the switch has lost contact ( try and clean it ) or the switch went bad ( find one at a junk yard).  The defroster is on you ( never had to trouble shoot one of those).
