Ok I must admit I was totally blown away with all the stuff you can do with a relay after cruising this site for hours..My question is this>>>>>>>

Is it OK to splice into a wire if you are adding something or should you use a relay to splice the power??

Sorry if this is a stupid question, just after reading all this relay stuff, it was just something I was wondering about....

Hi Sean, it will depend on what you're tying into. Did you have something specific in mind, or just in general?

..in general for the most part. I mean I am a splicing fool posted_image And after reading some of the nightmares that have happened to people burning things up, I just wanted to be more cautious on what i do.

so for an example lets say for hooking up off road lights. If you were hooking up 4 150watts lights..what would you do?

I'd run an additional fused power lead from the battery to a relay, then activate the coil of the relay via a switch to send power to the road lights instead of attempting to splice the power lead of the road lights into the power lead of some other lights such as your parking lights or head lights. You could even have the coil of the relay activated by the parking lights or head lights or by some other existing switch if you didn't want to add one.
