hi,

new to relays so would appreciate if any1 could help me w tis....

as shown by e badly drawn picture, a switch & a relay is connected between e 12V batt & e chassis... if e switch is 'on', & energise e relay, wont it cause a short cct, since its a direct connection between '+' & '-'??

The relay has a coil inside that when energised with a pos & neg connection causes it to pull or push a floating contact. Because the coil has a resistance there will be no short curcuit! It could be said that the coil works similar to a magnet when energised. Take the lid off carefully and have a look!
