Having some issues if someone can help me. trying to turn on/off an amp with a switch and relay. The problem im having is that when the car is not started it works properly however when the car is on the switch does not control the amp.

87 - battery, 85- ground, 86 - remote from radio, and 30 to amp

switch is placed between 30 and the amp. some thing im doing wrong?

what do you mean a switch.

the way you describe it is a manner that the radio controls the amp. the remote lead from radio triggers relay in return turn on the amp. what are you trying to accomplish. that is the question to ask you

basically the wife hates all the bass in the car and wants the ability to turn it off. I want to be able to use the two prong toggle switch (without a light) to power off to the amplifer. Since i have two amps the relay is needed.

ok do this.

pin 86 remote lead from radio
pin 85 to one side of small switch
pin 87 12 volt power does not have to be constant and does not have to go to battery. can be connected to the red or yellow wire from radio. fuse it
pin87a not used
pin 30 output to amp
ground second side of switch.

if you connect it like this it should work as long as switch is good.

you are grounding the relay through the switch. the ground will be lifted when you shut the switch off cause the relay to release. and disconnet the power going to the amp.
