i need a to make a relay system using momentary switches.  i would like to to where i have lets say 5 switches and when i press one in it turns on and stays on, but if i press another one of those switches i want the first switch system to turn off and that second one to turn on.  how would i go about doing this.  can someone draw me up a diagram so that this will work.

thanks in advance.

What kind of project is it?

It could be done fairly easily with a microcontroller, but doing it with relays alone would require a lot of relays and wouldn't be practical for a car.

You could just use a cam switch. Or interlocking push switches.

i thought about those but seems like the biggest they can go are 5 switches.

is this true?

How many are you looking to do?

Sure they do.

Finding a supplier? Well that is another issue.

thanks.  thats not really the rounte i wanted to go for because i wanted all the buttons to be next to each radio and speaker setup, but this seems to be the only way i can find to do it.  i know that it can be done but not sure if there is a control unit or something to make it work how i sorta pictured in my head.

Why didn't you say you were making a display?

I'm a poet and didn't know it.

Now I understand.

Now I feal Dumb. posted_image

Not enough coffee this morning. It is about 6:30 am.

Hold off on the switches.

I think we can do this with relays.

Here is a basic circuit we will start with. I made this a couple of years ago.

Here are a couple of Digital switches in the mean time. Something to think about One switch to select up to 10 different Stereos.

Did you read the article? The Diagram only showes 4 but you copy the pattern to get up to 10 outputs.

You can get the parts at www.mouser.com or www.digikey.com or www.mcmelectronics.com

I forgot to tell you that trere are many Manufactures and they use Prefixes in front of the Base numbers

Sorry

Also these IC's are static sensitive and you need to follow proper grounding precautions when handling them. Like a grounded Soldering Iron and a Grounded Wrist Band.
