My question is about what's best way to connect considering the choices.I have this top line A/D/S/ subwoofer that has very powerfull spring loaded push down connectors.I thought about leaving the copper wires bare,or solder just the ends,or atach a gold plated pin, what do you suggest,i will be using top line Acoustic Research PRO series 12 gauge oxygen free copper,or maybe crimp on's...
Thank you !
Depends on the banana clip ( or pin ) that you are using. If it's a crimp on clip , then I would solder the connection at the crimp ( added hold to the wire ) instead of soldering it straight to the spring loaded clip, but if the clip has an allen bolt that attaches to the bare wire that would be sufficient. Using a banana clip also compresses the springs more and in turn puts alot more clamping force on the connector.
A little trick I've done in the past with the banana clips is to put the clip into the spring loaded connector and use a knife to mark where the clip and the spring touch. Then I take a knife or what have you to carve in a groove so the spring connection now has a groove to bite into and it will never vibrate loose.
