I am on the local fire department and had some troubles with trying to use a relay. I want to hook up 2 alternating flashing lights and I want to power it from a switch. I was told to buy a SPDT relay but nobody can help me with what wires to hook up where. The numbers on the relay are 30, 85, 86, 87, 87a. Anybody out there help is greatly needed thank you.

The relay will depend on how you want to activate it ? Ground activation or 12 volt Power activation ? If the flasher unit is a (+) trigger then use one of the following diagrams: ------------- Jeff

One thing I forgot to mention is that I would like the lights to alternately flash.....left light then the right light and back to left and then right. I dont know if the setup would still be the same.

If you know a little bit about electronics, you can make a flasher with basic electronics components. You could get the parts at radio shack. Ill try to come up with an explanation or diagram for you.

If you want to have fun, you could go to radioshak and get simple electronic components to make yourself and adjustable flasher. It takes to relays. When you hit the switch, it will turn on your flasher and alllow 12V to run to the relay that is going to flash the light. Prolly the most complex part is the 555 timer chip, though it only has 4 legs. It shows what you connect to each leg. If you understand a little about electronics, it is not as difficult as it seems. other than doing this complex flasher yourself, you could just get a regular automotive flasher.

If you want to ad Wig_Wag headlights to an exsisting Vehical Here is a circuit to do just that.
