I added auxilary Led lights to the running boards on each side of a pickup. I have them wired so that they are steady on with the parking lights of the truck and flash oppisite of the turn signal on the given side. This is good but they only flash if the Parking lights are on. Is there a way of having them act as turnsignals with out the parking lights being on? Yet still act as a turn and park light when the parking lights are on?

Currently for each side I have a relay wired #30 +12 from parking light switch #85 earth #86 +12 from turn signal switch and 87a +12 output to added lights.

Kinda strange how this is coming up so frequently-

Problem is, there are no relays needed to do this; maybe this doesn't belong in the Relays forum- posted_image

Ok I just tried wiring up the lights across the park lead and turn signal lead and it works fine with the parking lights on( park steady flashing turn). However, with the park lights off the side lights don't flash for a turn signal....

I now see all the other posts that I should have been asking my question in and am sorry to start a new thread. But I also want to add that I am using 6 9 diode leds and 5 3 diode leds on each side of the truck. I really have no idea if that affects the way I need to wire these or not but I think it may. I really never should have posted the topic as a single filament bulb. sorry and thanks to anyone still willing to help me..

Actually, yours has a new wrinkle in that you're using LEDs rather than regular incandescent filament bulbs like everyone else.

Problem here is that your LEDs will normally only work when powered in one direction, so you'd have to modify your LED drive with a rectifier circuit (four diodes in a bridge configuration) to get it to work. If your LED markers draw under an amp, you could use 1N4001 diodes.

Hotwaterwizard, do you have a diagram available to show that? If not I can draw one up later on-

By the way, I was just kidding about it not belonging in the Relays forum; if you can get this alternate method to work and not have to use relays, it's actually a much more interesting way to go about the solution.

Ok I was trying this on the bench with one light and it didn't work like I said earlier... tried it again on the truck with all the lights hooked up parrallel on each side and it worked perfect.... thanks for the help guys! posted_image

I did it by myself ín My first School Practice here in Guadalajara Mexico:

You will need 1 relay Only:

Check This connection:

Terminal 30: Fuse Battery Current.

Terminal 85: Constant Ground From Battery. (-)

Terminal 86: You will connect Here 2 cables:

Positive Signal from Parking Lights. ( You can Take It directly from the Lamp in the Front Side of the Car.)

Positive Signal from Turn Lights. ( You can Take It directly from the Lamp in the Front Side of the Car. )

Terminal 87: This will contains current that you can use in any additional lamp as you are wishing top do it.

as you see, terminal 86 will energize the Relay and will let the Current in 30 goes to 87 with good value and able to pump up any automotive light.
