My problem is that I need a normally open cruise  control swith, but the ones that fit my colum in my old car are normally closed. Rostra says that only difference between the two is one wire. I'm told that taking that one wire through a relay will fix my problem.

Here is how I have it wired:

  • Wire from switch-> 85
  • Ground-> 86
  • Power->30
  • Wire from harness for cruise-> 87

Checking with a volt meter, I see that power is on to the wire going to the PCM whehter I have the cruise  switch on or not.

Any ideas/corrections to my wiring?

What is your vehicle? Rostra does have both normally open and normally closed levers for some GM vehicles.

Hi Sparkie

My problem is that they do not have normally open ones that will mount to an older column. The column is a 1969 Olds Tilt/Telescopic column, in a '56 Chevy.

I spoke with Rostra yesterday, and they think they can figure out how to wire it through a relay. They were going to call me back with info on how to do it today, but didn't. I'll call them again tomorrow.
