Hi
I have a 1997 Infinity QX4 and the alarm started going off at random (mostly at night) so my friend pulled the security horn relay out and that kept the horn from honking every time the alarm went off. ever since he pulled that relay out my car started chugging and then finally would not start, untill it totaly cooled down, then it starts up fine and runs fine until you turn it off, then it chugs and dies again untill it is totaly cold again. We put the relay back in and replaced the fuel filter but no change. Does any one have any input? I do not know if one has any thing to do with the other but it sure seems like it!
Sounds like the battery is the problem, Unrelated to both.
If battery is weak the strain of the starter trying to start the car will lower the volltage. This will cause the relay to draw more amps that normal and heat up.
When it cools so does the battery and it will also come back to the rated voltage causing you to think the relay is the problem when it is the battery with a weak cell.
Durring the night the battery has a constant drain from the alarm, When the voltage drops below a set amount the alarm goes off. It thinks someone is tampering with the battery and it lets you know.
