Topic completed category

Ok, so an idea just popped into my head, but it's more of me just daydreaming........

I usually go to a section (like Car Security) and scroll down the list of posts, looking for ones with 0 (zero) responses. Then I try to answer, or at least point them in the right direction, since they have no responses. Then, sometimes, I look for posts with 1 response. I started noticing that sometimes 1 response is all that's needed (such as a wiring diagram request or something of that sort).

Then I was thinking, I wonder if it would be possible to have some kind of "status" for each post, saying whether it's still "In process" or "completed". Maybe the status could show up on the page that lists all of the posts, showing which ones are considered done, and which are still pending.

I'm not really sure who would set the status, though...maybe the author. Once their question is answered, and they're done, they can change it to completed. Then...to push this even further...you could filter them when looking at the posts.

I don't know, I think it's a sort-of cool idea. Not something that I've seen on other sites or anything, but might be cool here, and might help the "productivity".

Often the original author of a topic will receive the answers they were looking for when they posted the topic, and they could indicate that their topic is "completed" as you described, then a moderator could close the topic, but many times new questions arise during the same installation and the original author may find it necessary to add to the original topic after he/she thought they had all the answers ;). If the topic is closed, they would have to create a new topic and reference the old topic which would only create more congestion and make it more confusing for some to follow. By default, all topics with no new posts in the past two months are closed on a regular basis.

If you want to make it easier for yourself to follow a lot of topics, you can enable forum post notification for any forum at the bottom of each main forum page. You can do the same for individual topics as well.
