I'm new here. The folks over at golfmkv.com (where I usually ask VW questions) couldn't help.
My car:
2008 VW Rabbit with manual transmission. Should be exactly the same as other MKV models - GTI, Golf, R32, Fahrenheit from 2006, 2007, and 2008. Probably also same as Jetta. I've searched here and everywhere else, and failed to find the answers to a few questions.
I'll be using a
Bulldog RS85P (which I already have) with their 791 security bypass and my valet key. I'm trying to plan ahead and have all the data I need. I should be able to use their
2007 Rabbit wire color chart. I can check that info against the
2007 and 2006
Jetta,
Beetle, and
Passat information in the
vehicle wiring database.
Q1. I'm going to have to wire it with a clutch bypass, of course. Where will I find the appropriate wire and what color is it?
If possible, I'd like to wire it so it requires the car to be in Neutral. If I can't, I'll probably set it up to require me to leave the car running when I exit before it will start remotely.
Q2. Is there a wire I can use to check if it's in Neutral?
Q3. Where do I find the wire for the handbrake and what color is it?
I'd like to use the factory keyless entry with it, rather than having to carry a second remote. The unit can simply monitor the factory keyless for 3x "lock" pulses, but I could also hook it up another way if I want.
Q4. Is there a wire I can monitor for the "Hatch open" button's signal?
Q5. Is there a wire I can monitor for the "Panic" button's signal?
Q6. Besides the transponder key, is there any other disarming of the factory alarm required to install a remote start in this car?
Thanks in advance.
It's not, but I'm going to make sure that it's safe by checking for the E-brake and either checking for neutral (if possible), or by requiring myself to exit the car in pit stop mode and shut it off remotely.
I refuse to open myself up to the possibility of remote starting it while it's in gear.
