there are conflicting arguements to wire an aftermarket tachometer in a 2003-2008 dodge truck with a 345 hemi the 6 cylinder model requires an adpter offered by each manufactueer, but i have yet to find out can the tach be wired directly to the existing factory tach , and what wire should be used.

You should get a Haynes manual to look for the wiring diagram. That's how I figured out to wire my head unit and nav system.

its not going to be in the haynes manual for that truck. i have an 03 ram with the hemi. i suggest you do a little online research and you can find places to download the service manual for free. unfortunately i'm sure i would not be allowed to post a link on here as it is in effect "stolen" but not very difficult to find either. i have seen both the 03 and the 04 manual for download

Tachometer dk. blue/gray   ac   PCM, BLACK/ orange plug, pin 34
Notes: The PCM is on the passenger side firewall. The BLACK/ orange plug is the second plug down from the top.

You may have that same color wire at the instrument cluster.  If so check it with a volt meter to verify that the AC voltage increases with the increase of RPMs.
