I am looking for the VSS wire on a 93 Taurus with the 3.8l engine.

The install info available says "GREEN/ Black" from transmission harness, but I can't find that combination coming off the tranny-- I did find a GREEN/ black wire on a large harness that is bolted on the driver's side strut tower but I am fearful of probing due to airbags being in the car.   Anyone have any ideas?

Hi, thanks, but I got that info-- I don't find a GREEN/ black combo coming off the tranny. Do you have a specific location on the tranny that might be found (other then the actual vss location cause thats buried deep!)?

Does ford typically duplicate wire color codes or are they uniform across the car?

Again.. Im not sure about that location. The only module to the "far right" of the glove box is a blue box that I believe to be the airbag module--- I'm really not going to solder anything to that!! :)

The engine computer can be accessed from behind the glove box but it it is directly above and the harness is not accessible from the interior of the car. Any more ideas?

If there is a 26 pin plug on that box, and there is a purple wire at pin 14 of that plug, it might be worth your while to attach a volt meter to that wire and drive a bit and see what happens. Set the meter to the AC volt selection, car at rest = 0 volts, and voltage goes up linearly with speed. If that wire does that, chances are that is your wire.
