Hello,

04 Mustang V-6 Convertable

Mach 460 audio trying to install Alpine CDA-9825 headunit

I am havinga  really hard time with this install.  I have installed this radio before and havent had any problems before until now.  I wired averything up like I thought I was suppose to and now when I turn the parking lights or the headlights on the car tries to start, even if its already started.  Now the kicker is, if the car is in drive it wont do it, but if its in park, reverse, or neutral it will.  I believe it has something to do with the ignition, but I have it hooked up correctly, I think.  I am using Metra's 70-5521 harness and the harness from the Alpine radio.  I connected the red wire from the Metra harness to the red wire on the Alpine harness.  Could this have anything to do with the amp harness?  Any help would be appreciated, along with a wiring diagram.  The diagram is printed on the Metra kit, but I dont know where I went wrong.

I should add that eeverything else works on the radioincluding the XM radio i installed as well.  The only problem is the vehicle trying to start, evern without the key in the ignition.  Just thinking here, could this be that there is constant power going to the ignition? and if how is this trying to do so?

Thanks

Come up with anything yet? And do you have a pic of the install?I only see a Pink/White wire for starter in the harness and i doubt you tied into that for a head unit install considering you have the 70-5521 plug.

nope not yet... here is a pic, but its prolly not that great.  On the electrical tape, all wires are singled out, but I wanted to reduced the amount of tape so i wraped two wires per tape, bu they are singled out and i have verified it.  This is the best pic i could take (older camera).  Thank for all the help.

By chance do you have the factory radio?and if so have you hooked it back up to see if it still acted up?Oh by the way,it would'nt hurt to solder and heat shrink those wires instead of tape or butt connectors.

factory radio is back in and works perfectly.  I did sodder the wires, just put electrical tape around them afterwards for protection.

Did you hook up the illumination wire(s)and if so are the wires the same colors. It's kind of hard to see exactly what is wired together in the pic.

older radio that does not have illumination wires, also the harness has orange and ORANGE / black wire that is not hooked up.  I also have four mute wires (brown) those are the wires in the middle of the pic that are wrapped with nothing attached.  All the speakers work fine so there is nothing worng with the white, green, purple and gray wires.  All that leaves me with is the yellow (which is hooked up to cooresponding yellow), black (which is hooked up to the cooresponding black), pink/black which is going to solid pink (audio interupt), and red (ignition) which is also hooked up to cooresponding red.  Im confused.

I also have the solid blue wire (power antenna) which is not hooked up to anything, due to no power antenna on the mustangs.  The blue with with the stripe is going to the factory amp which has cooresponding blue with stripe wire (strange that there is no ground for it).

No ground, black or black with white stripe?

no ground to the amp connection, no... there is a ground for the arness itself though.  looking at it, i believe the ground might also be ground for the amp as the wiring for the amp goes through the alpine harness.

I guess the only other thing you could do is try and connect the red, yellow, and black only and see what happens.Just supply power to turn on the radio,no amp.

the amp isnt giving me any problems other than the popping noise that is very common, which i was able to fix.  What would happen if i didnt connect the red wires at all? i think was is happening is the ignition is getting constant power and thats why its trying to start, but why only in park, reverse and neutral and not in drive.... hmmmmm

Technically, the yellow wire is 12volt constant, and the red wire is 12volt switched.

thats what i thought as well

do you have the wiring diagram so i can make sure that the wire isnt in the wrong slot and therefore going constant? also am i correct to assume that the reason for the ignition trying to start is because the ignition wire is getting a constant 12 volt?

True about both points i'll look for the diagram for you.

thank you.... also, I dont know if you saw it when I posted the question earlier.  What would happen if I just didnt connect the ignition wire and therefore possibly solving the problem? would the radio stay on always or what? sorry for a dumb question, just dont want to start a vehicle fire.... =D

Do you have a meter, power probe,or a test light? What you really need to do is find out what is supplying that pink/white starter wire with power.Do you have an after market alarm/remote start?

no remote start, but the wire that is ignirtion is red wire.  I dont have a pink and white one.  The pink one i have is pink/black which is audio interupt

The pink/white wire is located off the ignition switch under the dash,(ignition harness)something has to be suppling power to that wire in order for the car to start when the light switch is turned on.

would yyou recomend that i bypass the ignition wire and go sraight to the car wiring harness? Im not sure what else i could do? any harm on bypassing the ignition wire all together?

this will prolly be my loast post for a little while as i need to get cleaned up to have dinner and a movie with the girlfriend.  I didnt have the car all day so I have not tried anything out on the car yet. I appreciate all your help thus far.

If nothing else run a new wire(12volt constant)from the battery to the radio(fused)and tie in a 12volt switched wire from the ignition harness(under dash)not the fuse box.Ground properly and then hook up the speaker wires, done!
