02 ford escape gem module

Alright so I just got done checking an 02 escape which an alarm was installed by us about 1 1/2 years ago. About 2 months ago she said she was having problems with her alarm going off all of a sudden, but most particular was that she had lost the ability to unlock/lock sometimes, causing her to use her factory remote.

So I dug into the unit and found nothing wrong with the connections, except whoever wired the fact alarm disarm forgot to throw a diode in( wired off reversing polarity unlock harness). Also there was no specific factory alarm disarm wire coming off the alarm brain. So i threw the diode in and thought that would solve the problems. I also checked the memory log of the alarms and it was 5 door triggers. So i assumed it was the alarm throwing it off and the door switches looked fine/not corroded.

Today rolls around, one of the other installers removed the unit because she still was having problems. But she brings it to me because now her factory alarms is going off/limited range now. I have pretty much narrowed it down to a bad GEM module.

Do you think the + pulse from the reversing door locks pulse before I diode the wire could have caused the GEM module to go bad? It was connected to the - factory disarm wire. I think it might have, but i hate to admit it, and have the shop eat about a $900 module cost.

Anyone? All i really need to know is if the - factory alarm disarm wire is connected to a coil terminal of a relay inside the GEM module or if it is a direct input.
