Hi, I'm putting keyless entry into my daughter's 1998 Cavalier Coupe, 2.2L.  I'm to the point of interfacing to the parking lights to let them flash when the doors lock/unlock.  The wiring diagram for Cavalier says a brown wire in behind the carpet near the kick panel, in a green connector.  I found this brown wire, and interfaced the keyless entry module to it, but the lights aren't flashing.

I think I've followed the directions OK for the keyless entry unit.  i.e. connected the right wires to power, ground, positive connection, etc.

My question:  Have I found the right wire to interface to?  When I have this green connector disconnected, the blinkers still work, so I'm not sure that I have the right connection.  I would've thought the blinkers would not work if that connector is disconnected.

Any suggestions or other locations to find the right wire that I need to interface into for the parking lights to flash with the lock/unlock?

Thanks!

Lets start with purchasing a Digital Multi-Meter...This will assist you in locating the right wire...Sometimes colors and locations are wrong...Sometimes there is more then 1 of the same color...!  I tell the guys at the shop, when they cant find Parking Lights...You can always go to the light itself...You did already go thru firewall for the siren...?

No need to go through the firewall, as I'm not adding an alarm. I do have a voltage meter available (via neighbor). So I should check that wire and other wires for voltage, tell me what I will see when I have the right one?

I assume I should test each wire and turn on/off the parking lights? Or should I turn on the hazards and watch for increase/decrease like that? What will I see when I have the right wire?

Thanks for feedback!

You should see 12 volts w/ the Parking Lights ON...Once you find a wire that gives you 12v...Slide dimmer switch up/down...If there is a big change in voltage...Lets say it goes from 10v to 12v while sliding dimmer dial...This is the INCORRECT wire...You want there to be very little- to no change in the voltage when sliding dimmer...Good Luck...Yeah i just saw Keyless...LOL
