I have been searching for the best location to connect my radar detector so that it will turn on when I turn on the ignition.

I asked my dealer, and got a real run-a-round, on the legality of having/using the detector and my warranty.

In the past I just hooked up a wire into my fusebox. But, all the fuses seem hot all the time. I was told that it was due to the Montego being based on a VOLVO with a Positive ground system.

I really would appreciate any help, I have purchased two books via ebay and have no idea what is what.

Thank you.

To start with the last vehicles to use positive ground were Austin Minis Morris Minors and MGs up to 1970!  He may have said ground switch but what he really meant was data. You should pick up ign anmd ground at the OBD ll socket, or behind the dash (if it's based on the UK Ford Mondeo) look for a yellow cable for ignition, or behind the radio, yellow/something. This dealer is talking through his backside, the only Volvo based cars are the UK Focus ST and RS, and the Landrover Disco, where they use Volvo ignition systems and engines.  In Fact the small V50 Volvo is a Euro Focus in drag, aka Mazda 3 and Land Rover  Freelander. Come to think of it, look for a GREEN/ something wire going into the fusebox.

Yup, just Wiki'd it, its a UK Mondeo pre 08 with an uglier front end, it uses the same V6 Duratec engine as ours so where does the Volvo bit come from? It's all Ford.

It's also a Ford 500 so look for a light GREEN/ purple for ign or grey/something for ACC in the ignition switch loom.
