me rookie, how can i find out which data wire on the diagnostic plug i need to tap into when i use a data module, do data wires change with lets say on chevy are all data wires the same? or does it change by model and make, and where can i got to find the proper data wire to tap? thanks foar any help.

It will tell/show you in the install manual of whatever bypass/module your using...! Worse case... you can look the manual up on-line!

Most Chevy vehicle have the Data wire on pin #2 on the OBDII port. Quite a few of them are VIOLET, but some newer vehicle are GREEN. All bypass modules that you purchase will tell you where the data wire is according to their diagrams

To connect a wire to pin #2, do I stick the wire into the port or do I slice the wire behind the port and make a more 'permanent' connection?

Connect at the back of the connector and solder the connection. If the connection is not soldered you will have problems with the bypass module
